COURSE
DESCRIPTION
Overview of computer information systems, fundamental computer concepts and
programming techniques.
Hands-on experience with selected business software and one
programming language.

historical development of information processing and the computer, and describe
its impact on society

7. ATTENDANCE
Attendance is extremely
important. First, any changes made to the course tracker
are made in class.
Secondly, information relating to assignment completion is given in class.
Finally, the teaching and
learning process is carried on in class. Please inform me if you need to be
away on certain days,
or e-mail me if you are not well.

9. ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Communications and Critical Thinking are currently being integrated into a wide
variety of
courses. By integrating these abilities students benefit twice. They learn
course content and they develop
these important abilities to enhance student success in academic and
professional pursuits. At

All students assume, as part of their obligation

12 PROJECT DETAILS
The purpose of class projects is
to enable you to demonstrate competence in using a microcomputer
with a variety of widely used
popular applications. Each project
will be clearly explained to you
but creativity is encouraged.
Project 1. Microsoft
PowerPoint. Create a slide show
on a topic discussed in class (please use the list of
criteria handed out in class). You
will be required to give a 5 – 8 minute presentation in class using your
PowerPoint presentation to assist you.
Project
2. Microsoft Excel. Create a personal budget using the
example handed out in class. You
need not
give real numbers – you can make them up. Remember to use
formulas as indicated in the example. You
print outs will be as follows:
print out #1 – the personal budget figures
print out #2 – the formulas
print out #3 - create a pie chart
showing your yearly expenses
print out $4 - create a bar chart
showing your expenses for the month of January
Project 3. Microsoft
Word. Replicate the resume,
cover letter, and flyer provided.
However, please
supply your own information. You
need not provide personal information about yourself. You can make
this information up. Be sure to
match the font styles and formatting in your document with the examples handed
out.
Project
4. Microsoft Access. Create a database
with at least six fields. Add 20
records. Create a Form
using tree of the six fields.
Include two queries – write at the bottom of the print out what
your queries were.
Finally create one report using all six fields in the database.

5. Microsoft FrontPage. Create a Web site using a topic
discussed in class. The Web site
must
incorporate the list of criteria handed out in class. Make sure that the hyperlinks to the Web
are tested and work.
Also ensure that the Navigation buttons (located along the bottom of each page)
work. Post your Web site on the

6. HTML Programming. Create a Web site using a topic
discussed in class. This project must
demonstrate your ability to work successfully with HTML tags. The Web site must incorporate the list
of
criteria handed out in class. Make
sure that the hyperlinks to the Web are tested and work. Also ensure
that the Navigation buttons work. Remember to use the Criteria sheet handed out
during class.
Project 7. Working in groups, complete the History
of Computers video worksheet.
You will find this
worksheet in the Course Documents
area of Blackboard (please
download). Remember to add all the
group’s members at the top of the worksheet.
