Dear Student,

Welcome to Estrella Mountain Community College!  We are pleased that you have enrolled in one or more classes with us.  This letter provides guidance on accessing your class (es), how to be a successful college learner, and information on EMCC’s student learning support services.

     1.    First, if you are a new student, please click on the following link for very important information about logging into an EMCC  computer and for accessing Blackboard.  Blackboard is the 24/7 course management system used by most faculty for the majority of courses, and can be used from any computer with internet access.     http://www.estrellamountain.edu/academics/nasacenter/Learning%20Support%20Brochure.pdf

If you encounter any problems or have any technical questions, please call or visit our excellent staff at the Information Commons.  Click on the following link for Information Commons hours, contact email, and phone number.     http://www.estrellamountain.edu/academics/nasacenter/info_comm_home_page.asp

Also, for Blackboard logging in problems, you may use the 24/7 Maricopa Help Desk support at: https://ecourses.maricopa.edu/webapps/login/

     2.     Second, please log into Blackboard, on your start date, select your course, and carefully review all information on the Learner’s Responsibilities webpage (this menu button is located on the left side of your screen). Successful college learners possess basic computer skills, manage their time efficiently, and use study skills most effective for their own learning style. http://www.estrellamountain.edu/ctl/el_orientation.asp

     3.     Finally, successful college learners are proactive in seeking assistance from EMCC’s learning support services.  Please take a few moments to watch the 8 minute Learner Support Services video, and in exploring the services listed on the Student Learning support webpage. Regular use of these services, such as weekly visits to the NASA center or Writing Center, will enhance your overall learning experience, and help you achieve your educational goals. http://www.estrellamountain.edu/academics/nasacenter

Traditional, hybrid, and online classes at EMCC provide flexible and dynamic learning opportunities.  To reiterate, successful college learners are well-organized, efficiently use their time, and proactively use EMCC’s student learning resources.  We look forward to helping you achieve your educational goals!

Sincerely,

The Student Learning Support Team
