I have been very active in our chapter for over a year now and love being a part of Phi Theta Kappa and especially Beta Alpha Xi Chapter. I have a vision for this chapter and I would love the opportunity to see that vision become reality. There is a tremendous amount of talent in our chapter and I want everyone else to know about the remarkable individuals who make up our chapter. I know we are capable of great accomplishments; we are already one of the Top 100 Chapters in the 1250-chapter Phi Theta Kappa organization. We have earned many awards for our previous work, and I plan on helping to take us to the next level of achievement. I would be honored in you would join me in our quest for continued success.

 Vice-President of Leadership

Christopher Esteen

I have been Activities Director of Black Student Union for the past year, planning and putting together most of its functions. I have also been a member of Phi Theta Kappa since 2007 and have been active in projects like tutoring/mentoring at Pappas School for Homeless Children. Until I attended leadership training at this year's PTK International Convention, however, I did not realize the full strength we have as an organization and the potential we have to serve the needs of our chapter, school and community. Serving as your VP of Leadership will enable me to use what I have learned to make our chapter more effective and successful. We can be involved in projects that make a difference to student success and social justice.

I am a new member of Phi Theta Kappa, but no stranger to campus activities since I also am an active part of MEChA, BSU, and Social Awareness Club. I like to think of myself as a good leader because I know how to delegate duties and work hard, yet I also know that a good leader also has to know when to follow. I commit that I will do my best to fulfill my duties as VP of Service 110%. I don't want to be an officer just to hole a title. I have a passion to help others and help our chapter realize the full benefits that Phi Theta Kappa has to offer.

My vision for the next year is being able to influence others and make things happen. As a future educator. I have always dreamed of making a difference in other people's lives. I am a Polish immigrant and have gone through a lot of challenges in my life. Now I feel that I have so much, I want to give back. Over the past year, I had a life-changing experience organizing a Phi Theta Kappa tutoring/mentoring project at the Pappas School for Homeless Children. The experience helped me understand the needs of others. Now I count my happiness not by things I can buy, but by the hugs I can give. Together with my Co-VPs of Serivce, I hope to continue to have an impact and help those who need it most.

As a new member of Phi Theta Kappa and as someone who was home schooled throughout junior and senior high school, I look froward to new friendships and working relationships with the great men and women of Phi Theta Kappa. Together we can keep our chapter and school one of the strongest in the Phi Theta Kappa organization.

Fundraising Officer

Ailine Norrell

Participating in Phi Theta Kappa events like state and international meetings and various chapter projects often carries a price tag. It will be my responsibility to plan fundraising efforts that will promote learning new skills and provide opportunities for fellowship as we earn extra funds to support our chapter's efforts.

I am a returning student from Los Angeles majoring in information technology. My previous background in mortgage finance, coupled with my major, gives me strong organizational skills that I will put to use in in helping to keep members fully informed and connected with chapter activities. I am ready to do my part by volunteering and representing our organization with enthusiasm. I encourage all other members to do the same.

This past year I served as Phi Theta Kappa's VP of Scholarship and as a volunteer tutor/mentor at Pappas School for Homeless Children. I wrote about that experience when applying for the All-USA Scholarship and was fortunate to win one of two scholarships awarded to EMCC students last October. Phi Theta Kappa has been very beneficial to me, helping me grow as a person and showing me that I can achieve my goals. As Membership Officer this year, I will work to let students know all the benefits being a Phi Theta Kappa member brings and help win a Pinnacle Award for increasing our membership by at least 10% so we can help a chapter member attend international convention in April.

I'm happy to continue my association with Phi Theta Kappa after serving in previous years as VP of Scholarship and Chair of Special Projects. Working to help increase and serve our student membership is an inportant goal. Higher membership numbers and our already good programs can mean higher participation rates and more success for our chapter. We can grow our membership by calling eligible students and offering them personal invitations as well as gently reminding them about application and fee deadlines. Students are busy and sometimes a reminder is all they need to take advantage of PTK opportunities and benefits.

I was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa in 2005 and served most recently for two terms as Chapter President. Although I graduated last May, I am continuing at EMCC as a part-time student. I will keep members apprised of chapter activities by documenting chapter meeting minutes on our Blackboard site and maintaining other important chapter records.
