News from the College Implementation Team

There has been much progress toward the implementation of the New Student Information System (SIS).  The system is almost completely finished. The District is continuing to work with the consultants to ensure that the system will be able to accommodate the many users of Maricopa. The campus CIT team is continuing to develop training and refine our business processes in order to meet the needs of the students, faculty, and staff. We need everyone’s help and support to have a successful implementation on February 19, 2008.

What’s new with SIS?

Even though we are delayed by a few months, the new SIS will provide some great features that our current system does not provide. These include:

  • Students can register for most classes on line:
    1. Courses that have pre-requisites as long as the student has the pre-requisite on file
    2. Courses that have test scores as long as the test score is on file
  • Faculty can grade on line
  • Faculty can do some grading on blackboard to upload to SIS.
  • Faculty can see their rosters in real time
  • Students will have a special ID Number that is different than their Social Security Number.

What can you do?

  • Attend any relevant upcoming training. These are on-going and  will include Division Chair and Division Secretary trainings, Enrollment training, Student Self-Service training, as well as Faculty training (which will take place closer to implementation).

  • Practice: We are working on providing practice accounts that will mirror your actual access in the new system. As soon as we have them in place, an announcement will be made to the campus.

  • Ask questions. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Lauren Shellenbarger or any member of the Campus Implementation Team.

The New SIS (Student Information System)  is a district wide effort to replace the current Student Information System. The Maricopa County Community College District intends to replace this legacy system and related shadow systems with a new system that possesses an innovative architecture and power tools will provide a viable and scalable information technology foundation for the future. This new system will also provide seamless processes for students within the Maricopa learning environment by converting from multiple databases to a single student database.

The New Student Information System will be configured and implemented to enable effective and efficient one-stop Self-Service for Students through a collaborative, learner-focused process.
