LearnShop Tutorial on PowerPoint 2007 Basics

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this learning session you should be able to:

·         Plan a PowerPoint presentation

·         PowerPoint 2007 Window

·         Create a new presentation

The secret to a successful PowerPoint presentation is to know your audience and then create a presentation that enhances your subject matter.

·         Creating a PowerPoint presentation involves creating a consistent series of slides on the topic presented.

·         Slides are basically created by selecting a layout (format for words and pictures) and also applying a Background such as a Design Template or Color Scheme.

·         It is recommended by most PowerPoint users to be consistent with the composition of slides that you create.

To start Microsoft PowerPoint click on Start>>Programs>> Microsoft Office >>Microsoft Office PowerPoint ….

 

The Office 2007 redesign includes some radical new interface elements aimed at making it easier to find the features you need and execute tasks more efficiently. The most prominent of these new elements is the Ribbon, which offers task-oriented tabs with commands readily available instead of hiding in a menu structure.

 

 

The following picture shows parts of the Excel 2007 window.

 

 

When you open PowerPoint, a blank slide will appear on the screen, with a Slide Layout for a Title Slide. Title your Presentation by clicking “Click to add title”.  Optionally, you may add a subtitle.

 

 

Click the New Slide button on the Home tab to add slides.

The default slide layout is applied to your new slide. You can change Slide Layouts, even after you have started to enter content (words/pictures).

Click on Click to add title to enter the title for your second slide. Type Introduction

Click on Click to add text and type your first topic. Then press Enter and type your other topics.

After finishing your entries on this slide Insert another slide. The title for this slide would be your Topic 1

Click on to Click to add text and talk about Topic 1.

 

 

To insert a picture on your third slide Click on Two Content on the new slide button, on the Home tab.

Click once on the Insert Picture from File to add your own pictures or click on the Clip Art button to add a clip art.

 

To insert your own pictures, you can click once on the Insert Picture from File button or click on  the Insert Tab>> Picture >>From File

 

 

 

Choose the drive where you have the pictures saved by clicking the down arrow in the Look in box

 

 

Click the picture name that you wish to insert.

 

Use the slide Master to choose your type Font, Color, Size, and preset animation. Go to View >>Slide Master

 

 

 

 

 

Select the title text, click Home then Click on the small box in illustration, and choose the font, font style, and size as you wish. This will format the titles of all your slides.

 

 

Select Click to Edit Master text styles and do your changes

 

 

After you have made the text changes on the Slide Master, click the View tab>>Normal.

 

 

To select a design click the Design tab then Themes and select the design of your choice from the menu.

 

 

To animate your slides, click the Animation tab>Choose a Transition.

 

 

To add sound to your presentation, click on the slide you want your music to start, then click the Insert Tab> Sound>Sound from Clip Organizer

 

 

Select Claps, Cheers for this example and click once on sound clip.

 

Click Automatically when the following message appears

 

 

To view your slide show click View Tab>>Slide Show.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To stop your show click anywhere on the screen then click on the third button on the bottom left of your screen. Click End Show
