 What qualifies as a Disability

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, an individual with a disability is a person who:
  1. has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities such as breathing, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, caring for oneself, learning and working
  2. has a record of such an impairment
  3. is regarded as having such an impairment

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for Disability Resource Center (DRC) services, a student must:
  • Meet Estrella Mountain admissions requirements or be enrolled as an Estrella Mountain student
  • Provide the DRC office with required documentation from a qualified professional verifying the nature and extent of the disability
The DRC manager or staff member will evaluate documentation and determine accommodation eligibility. All decisions are made on an individual basis.  A copy of documentation regulations can be requested from the DRC office or online at

  Requesting Services

If you feel you qualify as an individual with a disability, meet eligibility requirements and need services or reasonable accommodations, contact the DRC office at:
                  (623) 935-8935 or (623) 935-8863
                  (623) 935-8928 - VP
                  E-mail:  drs@emcmail.maricopa.edu
Certain accommodations may require up to eight weeks advance notice, such as sign language interpreters and alternative print formats.  For this reason, it is necessary to contact DRC at your earliest opportunity to ensure appropriate accommodations are in place before your classes begin.
You must arrange for accommodations before each semester.  The DRC office will not automatically assume the student will want the same accommodations for each class the following semester.
