Q: How much money can I receive for travel? A: Each Residential Faculty member is eligible to receive $750 per fiscal year (from July 1 – June 30). Q: How often can I apply for the travel funds? A: You may apply as many times as it takes to reach your $750 limit for one fiscal year (from July 1 – June 30). Q: Who is eligible to receive travel funds? A: Every Residential Faculty member at Estrella Mountain Community College is eligible. One Year Only (OYO) and One Semester Only (OSO) faculty members are not able to receive funding. Adjunct Faculty are able to apply for travel funding through a separate program provided by the Adjunct Faculty Association. Q: Can I combine my EMCC travel funds with other funding sources for the same trip? A: Yes. EMCC travel funds may be combined with grant awards, special division funding, or International Education awards. Q: Can I use my travel funds for registration fees? A: No. Travel funds cover the following costs: transportation, meals, lodging, telecommunication (long-distance and Internet connectivity), tips, and parking. Registration fees are paid by the Faculty Professional Growth Committee. Q: Why is the application procedure different for travel and Faculty Professional Growth? A: Faculty Professional Growth includes many programs, such as advancement on the salary schedule. A faculty member cannot choose to benefit from both the advancement and payment of registration fees (this would be considered double dipping). If a faculty member attends a conference and applies for advancement on the salary schedule, then she/he must pay for the registration fees. Consult with your FPG representative for option in which you would benefit most. Q: Who determines if I get funded? A: The Chair of the Faculty Travel Committee has the authority to approve your application. If there is some question regarding your application, the Chair must seek approval from a majority of Travel Committee members. Q: Must I attend a professional development event in my discipline to get funded? A: No. The Travel Committee generally does not screen applications since we rely on the professional judgment of our faculty. Q: Can I transfer my unused funds to another colleague? A: No. Q: What happens if my travel expenses exceed my $750 allocation? A: You must pay the reminder out of pocket or request funding from another source. Q: If I don't use my all of my $750 allocation this year, can I transfer my remaining balance for next year? A: No. The $750 limit is based on the number of Residential Faculty members who typically apply for travel in a fiscal year. Our intention is to deplete the funds while encouraging all interested faculty members to travel. |
