In order to apply for federal aid, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The fastest way to apply is on-line, click the picture below to be directed to the on-line application. Remember you must submit a new application for every new academic year.

 Basic Eligibility

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Have a high school diploma, GED or pass a test approved by the U.S. Department of Education (Asset, Compass, CELSA and  Wonderlic tests)
  • Be enrolled as a regular student working toward a degree or certificate in an eligible program that Estrella Mountain Community College offers.
  • Have a valid Social Security Number.
  • Be registered with Selective Service if you are a male between the ages of 18 and 25, and were born after December 31, 1960.

Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.  This include all periods of attendance at Estrella Mountain Community College.

 Dependent or Independent?

*If you do NOT meet one of the following conditions, you will be considered a Dependent student for financial aid purposes. Therefore, you will also need all the following information from your parent (s).

  • born before January 1, 1985 for the 2008-2009 Financial Aid Year.
  • are married,
  • enrolled in a graduate or professional educational program (beyond bachelor's degree),
  • are a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces,
  • are an orphan or ward of the court (or were a ward of the court until age 18),

have legal dependents other than a spouse (legal dependent means that you will provide MORE than 50% of the financial support for that dependent).

 

What information will I need to apply?

  • 2007 U.S. Federal Income Tax Returns for Fall 2008, Spring 2009 and Summer 2009 (2008-2009 academic year).
  • Untaxed income information (i.e., Social Security Benefits, AFDC/TANF, contributions to pretax retirement accounts, Veterans non-educational benefits)
  • Student (and or Parents) Asset Information:
         -  value of cash, checking and savings accounts
         -  value of investments, such as stocks, bonds, real estate (not including the house  
    you live in), etc., and any debt against these holdings.
         -  business value and debt
         -  farm value and debt
