CCSSE Data Incorporated As One Measure of Student Success

A fall meeting of key stakeholders reviewed results from the spring 2004 Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE). The survey provides a set of benchmark categories to improve the teaching and learning environment at community and technical colleges. Stakeholder participants helped identify institutional improvement strategies that support student success. Teams of faculty and staff participated as members of breakout groups to prioritize a “top five” list of improvement strategies to be implemented over the next year.

The "top five" strategies include:

  • Create Freshman Institute (First Year Experience)
  • Develop activities designed to enhance more interaction between faculty and students in a non-academic setting
  • Build private office space for Adjunct faculty to help privatize student/faculty communication
  • Embedding more aspects of student services as part of academic assignments
  • Create a College-wide Kiosk system for information distribution purposes

Additional information on how CCSSE data has been incorporated into the college's existing Institutional Effectiveness Program as a measure of Student Success can be found on-line at: www.emc.maricopa.edu/ie
