Kid’s College Classes

Parents/Guardians must escort the student to and from the class. For safety and security reasons, please do not allow children to roam the campus unaccompanied. Parents/Guardians, siblings or other family members are asked to remain outside the classroom in order to decrease distractions and interruptions and to maximize the Kid’s College experience during class time.

ACADEMIC KID’S CAMP

Give your kids the boost they need in school to succeed! These 1 week camps with certified elementary school teachers will give students the tools they need to be successful and the confidence they need to excel. Should there be a discipline problem, the child will be withdrawn and no refund given.  

Math Review (ages 8-11)

Designed to enrich and improve the elementary student's understanding of mathematics, the camp emphasizes skills such as problem-solving, reasoning, and communication.  Each day, students will engage in carefully designed activities using manipulative materials and computer applications.  They will extend their learning through direct application to real-world problems presented in games, videos, stories, and outdoor activities. Should there be a discipline problem, the child will be withdrawn and no refund given.

Rapid Reading Review (ages 8-11)

This class offers a fun and exciting way to practice reading comprehension using hands on projects, games, and activities.  The students will increase their knowledge in areas including comprehension, making connections, asking questions, predicting, summarizing and enhancing vocabulary.  Students can enjoy their summer vacation while reviewing and learning valuable reading techniques that will be used in the following school year! Should there be a discipline problem, the child will be withdrawn and no refund given.

Science of Magic and Illusion (ages 8-11)

This fun, hands-on class offers experiments using vacuums, density, magnetism, electronics, mixtures, acids & bases, along with illusions like optical illusions to explore and explain the mysterious. Parents who want a class for their children that is academic will appreciate the Scientific Method taught. Parents who want a class for their children that is also fun will appreciate the entertainment value of the magic/illusion performed.Supply fee: $15, payable to the instructor on first day of class

Spanish Basics for Kids (Ages 8-11)

Learn vocabulary, phrases and basic grammar of the Spanish language. Students will be able to communicate in basic Spanish at the end of the course. The teacher is a Native speaker who will help the student to master the vocabulary as well as the accent.

Successful Parenting

These classes will show you ways to enhance all your parenting skills, especially discipline methods and communication skills. Learn to build your child’s self esteem and yours at the same time. Taekwondo for Youth (7-16)

Taekwondo is composed of fundamental movements, patterns, sparring, and self defense techniques. Classes are designed to promote health, fitness, and personal development. This traditional Taekwondo is taught using modern fitness principals. Each belt rank, from beginning white belt to advanced black belt is taught using an established written curriculum, specific to that belt.

Plugged In! Computer Basics (Ages 8-11)

Plugged In! A Brief Journey into Cyber Space (Ages 8-11)

Learn how to obtain and setup a free email account. Explore search engines, online games, children’s web resources, and fun stuff on the web. Also, understand the dangers of the Internet, chat rooms, email and what’s legal and what’s not as well as what to look out for. Further, we will learn how to use the Internet as a powerful research and learning tool. Discover how computers are connected and how they are able to communicate.

Plugged In! Web Design (Ages 8-11)

Not only can a basic understanding of web design be useful in a professional or academic career, it can also be a lot of fun. This course will focus on the fun part of web design. We will learn how to create basic web pages based on common, buy yet simple techniques. A basic knowledge of computer usage is not necessary but would be helpful in order to focus more on the web page design and less on the basics of computer usage.

Bring your own keyboard and start learning about the joys of making your own music. Basic musical skills will be taught such as proper hand positions, posture, note reading, and technique. Students will learn how to play popular age appropriate songs step by step. Keyboards should have full size and weighted keys. Keyboard Stand and Sustain Pedal preferred. More advanced musical skills will be taught such as proper hand positions for chords, posture, note reading, finger picking or classical technique as well as pick technique. Basic fret board theory will be explored and students will learn how to play popular age appropriate solo and ensemble songs step by step. Supply fee is included in the cost of the class. Super Singing (Ages 8-14)

Attention: Calling all singers! Do you want to be an “idol”- like on American Idol? This is a fun method of learning to sing well including posture, breath support, pitch accuracy, projection, focusing sound and developing mental concepts. Discover the mysteries of vocal improvisation. Learn song preparation and performing/audience skills. Master the art of presenting yourself well.  Students will have an opportunity to sing in an ensemble setting and as a soloist.  Students will positively examine and critique their performance in a way that will allow them to grow and develop artistically. Growing Young Musicians: (Ages 5-8)

As growing young musicians, each child will learn about playing instruments in every musical family! Hands on interactive music discovery program for young musicians. Students explore real instruments in the PCM petting zoo; learn the basics of reading music, different instruments and the basic technique of playing those instruments while playing music games and developing basic musical competency. A great program for veterans of Music Time! No prior experience required. Classes taught by Phoenix Conservatory of Music instructors.

Parent/Tot Music Time (Ages 6 months - 4 years with Parents or primary care givers)

A fun and interactive way for families to bring music into their home. Helps develop musical competency in young children and their caregivers. Each child and caregiver duo will learn how to play together in ways that will enhance their child’s musical and general development. Learn new songs and games and play music on child friendly instruments. One child per caregiver. PCM Faculty have had special training with The Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, N.J. and the Stratford Career Institute. Class size limited to 15 caregiver/child teams. No prior experience required. PCM Early Childhood Programs Researched and developed by Regina Nixon and Bonnie Lou Olander.

Radical Robots

Build your very own robot hand to take home in a class that focuses on technology.  Explore how robots can be used to make our lives easier.  Experiment with robots that do some extraordinary tasks, infrared robots, robotic arms and even soccer playing robots.

Rockin’ Rockets

Mad Science invites you to launch your knowledge of flight as you build your very own rockets. Experiment with different kinds of propulsion systems as you use your new knowledge to blast off, track, and recover different kinds of rockets.  We will launch a rocket every day in this camp.  No space suits required. Treat your stomachs to some rocket snacks. Have a “Rockin” good time at this rocket camp!
