EMCC Announces 2012 NISOD Excellence Awards Recipients
Congratulations to three outstanding EMCC Faculty! Every year, the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) honors faculty and staff who have dedicated their careers to excellence in the classroom and innovation outside of the classroom. For 2012, Estrella Mountain’s NISOD Excellence Awards Recipients are Dr. Chris Coleman (Psychology), Dr. Bert Medina (Counseling), and Ms. Susan Malmo (English and Writing Center).
SouthWest Skill Center Offers LaidOffCamp
The SouthWest Skill Center and West Valley cities have collaborated to present the second LaidOffCamp Southwest Valley. LaidOffCamp provides tips on how to find a job, start your own business, build networking skills and use job-search technology. Scheduled for Saturday, January 7, 2012, this event provides attendees the time to network with each other while receiving great information about finding work in today’s economic climate. The Camp begins at 7:00 a.m. in the Community Room and moves to Mariposa Hall for breakout sessions between 8 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Register to attend the Camp at http://laidoffcampswvalleyjan2012.eventbrite.com/. Spanish Medical Interpreter Program Offered in Scottsdale
Did you know that your bilingual skills can greatly assist the community? The Spanish Medical Interpreter program began its first class at Scottsdale Healthcare (SHC) this December. Program participants are learning medical vocabulary in both English and Spanish, systems of the body, cultural awareness, and so much more. Spanish Medical Interpreters assist providers and patients with medical interpretation that proves essential in decision making and quality care.
Eight students are currently participating in this unique and highly sought after program. Upon successful program completion, students may apply to transfer the certificate equivalent of 12 credit hours toward elective courses within the Maricopa Community College District. Program completers apply for national certification through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters.
