Earth Week Features Variety of Learning Activities

In celebration of Earth Week, EMCC hosts many events and speakers to help employees and students learn and practice sustainability. All events are open to the public and free! Click for event details and times.

  • Monday-Thursday, April 21-24Student Union: Environmental films shown daily. See schedule.
  • Monday, April 21Plaza Gallery: Non-profit organization focuses on litter prevention and recycling.
  • Tuesday, April 22, Ceremonial Plaza/Plaza Gallery: Create self-contained seed pods and/or join the fitness walk n' talk.
  • Wednesday, April 23, Plaza Gallery: Assortment of reptiles on hand to help us learn about reptile conservation.
  • Thursday, April 24, Plaza Gallery: Live birds on hand to help us learn about human impact on birds and the environment.

EMCC Employees Recognized For Contributions to Student Success

As the end of the 2013-14 academic year comes to a close, it is a time to reflect on and recognize accomplishments. Insitutional progress happens as a result of the dedication and innovation of employees. Several EMCC employees will receive awards at the district in the coming weeks, including:

  • Marylyn Bradley - selected as EMCC's 2014 Woman of Distinction, Marylyn will be honored during the 16th Annual Women of Distinction Luncheon April 28.
  • Dr. John Bradley - selected from across MCCCD, John is one of five individuals to receive the Employee Recognition Award during the Foundation luncheon April 22.
  • Dr. Christina Van Puymbroeck and Pam Grady - recipients of EMCC's 2014 Diversity Advisory Council Award of Excellence will be recognized during the awards celebration April 29.

CATS Wraps Up Year With More Best Practices

Each month, the Student Academic Achievement Committee (SAAC) members recognize individuals who use student learning data to advance best teaching and learning practices. Most recent Comprehensive Assessment Tracking System (CATS) of the month include:

All CATS of the Month during the 2013/14 academic year are eligible for the new CATS of the Year Award!! The award will be presented during the May 5 all-employee end-of-year celebration (2:00-3:00pm, EST Conference Center).

Retirement Celebration for Debra Sheldon

With more than 17 years with the District, Debra Sheldon is retiring! Join in the farewell wishes.

EMCC Highlights Innovations and Diversity During Events

Two annual events help summarize and celebrate EMCC's unique culture of innovation and collaboration. All employees are invited to attend.

5 minutes of Fame. Employees share innovations and accomplishments from the year that have had a positive impact on the college. Lunch served.

  • Using the EMCC "I will Graduate" passport, current and future students participate in gathering information for their career goals. College Success Fair is similar to EMCC's evening event during the March 2014 Student Success Fair.

  • Celebration for students and employees features many activities April 16-18 in the Image Zone. Everyone welcome.

  • Guitar Music Clinic
  • Students from Community Education Guitar classes and electric guitar making class will perform on guitars they built. Two professional guitar players will also perform. Clinic is free for all - bring your guitar!

  • Learning College Conversation
  • EMCC's Learning College will be explored through the perspective of Student Affairs. All are welcome, lunch is served. Pre-register by Monday, April 21!

  • Women's Leadership group sponsors a used book sale to raise money for student scholarships.

  • Student Small Business Expo
  • First annual expo enables students who are aspiring entrepreneurs to receive feedback about their business idea. Students who want to pitch an idea - $10 - contact Entrepreneur Club president. All can attend - donation of can of food encouraged.
