CATS of the Year: Let's Go to San Diego!

The Student Academic Achievement Committee (SAAC) awarded Larry Pesta with the CATS of the Year award. From the 13/14 academic year CATS of the Month, "Let's Go to San Diego! Improving ESL fluency with role play" was selected for the year-end award. Larry's role-play simulation enables students multiple opportunities to use new slang terms during virtual trips.

Innovative Online System for Study Rooms

A collaborative effort between IT (Scott Worthington) and the Computer Commons (Gerard Happ) produced an online reservation system for Estrella Hall's study rooms. Students can access the system and reserve a study room 24/7, allowing automatic room reservation and maintaining current availability status for the rooms. Students can reserve the rooms for quiet study or groups may reserve for collaborative learning activities.  The online system efficiently schedules the rooms and has relieved staff from tracking reservations with pen/paper, thus providing a cost-savings in terms of time management. New Gainful Employment Rules

EMCC publishes information about gainful employment in accordance with the Department of Education (DOE).  During the 13/14 academic year, the DOE changed the reporting tool and required colleges to separate programs based on a mandated template. Thus, EMCC's pages comply with the template and all programs are reported separately (programs are not grouped under a single code). This standard was implemented by other MCCCD colleges prior to the new template and has resulted in EMCC reporting more programs.  Click to view EMCC's gainful employment site.
