1. Can I take the prerequisites while I’m in the program?
You may apply as a provisional student if you are currently attending your final semester of prerequisites, but in order to receive final admission, you must have all prerequisites completed.
2. I’m an LPN applying for Advanced Placement. Can I use unofficial transcripts or do I need to request official?
Unofficial transcripts can be used for initial advisement, but official transcripts must be received by EMCC before applying to the program.
3. I’m transferring into Block III from another Maricopa Community College. My file is at that college, along with my official transcripts. Do I need to request official transcripts to be sent to EMCC?
No, we will request your file, including copies of your official transcripts, from that school. Copies of official transcripts sent to us from the Nursing Department at another Maricopa Community College can be used in place of official transcripts as long as they are stamped “Official on file at _______.”
4. I’m coming straight from another Maricopa Community College Nursing Program into your program. Am I considered a transfer? What is the procedure?
Unfortunately we are not accepting “transfer students” at this time. You must follow the correct procedure to enter the program as an Advanced Placement Student.
5. What is the wait time to get into the RN Program at EMCC?
It depends on availability.
6. What sites will be used to fulfill clinical time?
We have several locations, and you will be required to attend various facilities throughout the program.
7. How long will the program last?
Two semesters (approximately 10 months.)
8. How many days per week will I be attending clinical sites?
Typically two days a week, consisting of 8 hour days.
9. I took some of my nursing courses/prerequisites outside of Arizona. Will you accept them?
Official transcripts must be sent to us from your previous colleges and an evaluation must be done. If an evaluation has already been performed by another Maricopa Community College, we will need a copy of the results.
10. What is the age/time limit on my academic prerequisites?
Time limits do not apply to any of the prerequisite classes except NUR187. It must have been taken no more than one year prior to admission of the Advanced Placement Program.
11. Do I need to take the NET test, the HESI, or both?
Both are required for admission to the RN Program. For the NET test, your results must be 50% or higher on the Math portion and 60% or higher on the Reading portion. For the HESI, your score must be 800 or higher.
12. What is the difference between the NET and HESI exams?
The NET is an “Admissions Test”, and can be taken every three months (60 days) until successful completion. The scores are only good for 12 months, so it should be taken close to the time you apply to the program. The HESI is a “Placement Test.” If your score is below the required level (800) you will have the option to enter Block II of the MCCDNP.
13. Do I need to attach copies of the NET and HESI scores to my application when I turn it in?
If you took the tests within the Maricopa Community Colleges, we can verify your scores. If you took the test at an outside school (Apollo, ASU, etc.) you will need to attach the scores and have a letter sent to us directly from that school to verify authenticity.
14. Is there a study guide for the NET test?
Yes, we have copies of the study guide in our Library.
15. I didn’t take NUR187, but I took a similar Pharmacology class. Will that fulfill the prerequisite?
An evaluation must be performed to determine if that class meets the prerequisite requirements. (The class must have at least 1.5 credits of theory.) If it does not meet the requirement, there is a Credit by Examination available throughout the Maricopa Community Colleges that meets the requirement.
16. What happens after I apply?
Your application will be transferred to the Nursing Director, and you will receive notice of any missing requirements, or notice of your admission to the program. If you are eligible for admission, you will receive an admissions packet that includes instructions for additional requirements that need to be met (including immunizations and various health forms.)
