The Practical Nurse program at EMCC’s SWSC provides a holistic approach to education that combines classroom instruction with a state-of-the-art simulation laboratory, hands-on clinical experience, and therapeutic interaction with patients in off-site clinical locations throughout the Phoenix area.

Practical nurses are responsible for patients in a variety of settings and at all levels of the health-wellness continuum. Working directly under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician, practical nurses have the responsibility to provide direct patient care to patients in a variety of settings; including long-term care facilities, home health care, psychiatric care facilities, schools, and hospices.

The responsibilities of the Practical Nurse include providing comfort, hygiene, inspection of all body systems, nutritional support, medication administration, treatment measures as ordered and within scope of practice, communication with members of the family and health care team, leadership and supervision, and patient advocacy.

Practical Nurses function within their legal scope of practice and use professional standards of care in illness care and health promotion activities for clients and families across the life span.

Convenient for your busy schedule, this program may be completed in approximately 46 weeks.
