It is the mission of the SWSC to actively develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with diverse health care and educational facilities in surrounding communities.
The Nursing programs are more than just learning patient care and clinical procedures, they provide a learning experience with multi-dimensional opportunities. On the campus of EMCC, SouthWest Skill Center students are part of an active college environment with access to campus facilities, events, and student clubs and organizations.
The SouthWest Skill Center has state-of-the-art facilities, labs and computer commons. In addition to personal and individual learning, students interact in classes, labs, group learning, and in professional and social environments.
The Practical Nursing Program offers a dynamic, fast—paced learning environment, and is staffed with qualified, experienced nurses dedicated to providing teaching strategies which engage the adult learner. Some of the modalities of teaching and learning include:
- Videos and computer-assisted learning
- Case Studies
- Instructor-led demonstrations and student lab practice
- Small and large group discussion
- Cooperative group learning
- Student group projects and oral presentations
- Written assignments
- Independent reading and study
- Clinical agency assignments
