Individual Course Admission

Individual Course Admission Requirements

Admission is based on eligibility, completed documents and space availability in the classroom.  The full program students have space priority and available space will be used for individual class enrollments after the full program students are accommodated.  Individual courses will not be offered if the full program cohort does not meet minimum enrollment numbers.  Available courses are listed by semester in the online schedule.   The SouthWest Skill Center (SWSC) only runs one semester from July 1 to June 30th of each year so more than one option for SWSC classes may appear in the semester drop down menu.  Check them both out.  Classes are added regularly and start throughout the year.

For individual course admission, a student must

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Contact Program Manager for approval (623-535-2764, Mark Haines)
  • Complete admission packet  

FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

STEP 1:  SET UP YOUR ONLINE STUDENT CENTER 

This can be done online anytime from anywhere!  Go to my.maricopa.edu  and click on New Student? Start Here.  (Already a Maricopa County Community College District student, click on Student Center.)  Follow instructions provided to obtain your Maricopa Enterprise ID (MEID) and password.  (New students who do not wish to use their social security number must complete a Student Information Form through Enrollment Services in person or via phone at 623-935-8888 to receive a confirmation number for online set up).  

Locate Student ID Number

This number is different from your MEID.

  • In the Student Center, under Personal Information, click on Demographic Data. 
  • Make a note of the Student ID number which will be needed for all campus services.

Activate Your Official Maricopa Student Email Account

In your Student Center, click on the Official Student E-mail button.

  • Enter your MEID.
  • Enter your Password.
  • Review the "disclaimer and terms of use" and click "accept terms."
  • Click Login.

All official college communications will be sent to your official student e-mail.

STEP 2:  COMPLETE THE INDIVIDUAL COURSE ADMISSION PACKET

If you would like to get a head start on your admission requirements, you can download a packet now.  Just follow the Steps for Admission and then meet with an advisor.   Key steps are 1) completing all forms, 2) getting approval from the program manager, and 3) securing funding and/or third party billing information.  

STEP 3:  MEET WITH SOUTHWEST SKILL CENTER ADVISOR

The SWSC Advisor will review your admission packet and verify that you have secured funding.  The advisor will also review the packet for accuracy and completeness.  An advisor will answer any questions you may have about your admission documents for the individual course(s).  After you have turned in your packet, contact the program manager about book requirements and other classroom necessities.
