Annie has been a fulltime English faculty member at EMCC since August 2001. She received her B.A. in English from the University of Texas at Austin, minoring in Classical Civilization and her M.A. in English from Texas A&M International University, where she minored in Psychology. This came in useful, since "I had to analyze why I chose to do grad work at an A&M school. But I’m over that. Really. No, seriously."
Annie is a strong believer in innovative teaching, such as active learning and learning communities. This is her first endeavor into service learning, so she's "taking it nice and slow." She's hoping that the activities her Chicano Literature students do will strengthen their ties to their culture and instill a desire to become more invested in their community.
While Annie's teaching emphasis revolves around English Composition and Chicano Literature, she also teaches Nineteenth Century Women’s Literature, and hopes to eventually teach a Gothic Literature course.
Annie enjoys her family, reading and writing, 80s pop culture, painting, photography, Mexican folk art, and kitsch. Her current passion is Riker, her cat. |
