Dr. Raffin received her Doctoral degree from Arizona State University in Education. She is fulltime Education faculty at EMCC where she also is developing the Education program. Her pre-service teachers get an abundance of practical, hands-on experience when they take her education courses. Each class requires a minimum of 20 hours of Service Learning. Under the direction and guidance of a mentor teacher, her students work with elementary or high school students individually, in small groups, and teach lessons. Service Learning offers Deborah's students opportunities to explore a variety of grade levels, educational programs, schools, and school districts. They learn more about the teaching profession and the challenges facing schools and education. Most importantly, Service Learning provides a unique and valuable way for them to discover the joys of interacting with children and adolescents. |
