Deborah Raffin's Bio

Dr. Raffin received her Doctoral degree from Arizona State University in Education.  She is fulltime Education faculty at EMCC where she also is developing the Education program.  Her pre-service teachers get an abundance of practical, hands-on experience when they take her education courses.  Each class requires a minimum of 20 hours of Service Learning.  Under the direction and guidance of a mentor teacher, her students work with elementary or high school students individually, in small groups, and teach lessons.  Service Learning offers Deborah's students opportunities to explore a variety of grade levels, educational programs, schools, and school districts.  They learn more about the teaching profession and the challenges facing schools and education.  Most importantly, Service Learning provides a unique and valuable way for them to discover the joys of interacting with children and adolescents.
