Annette Wilson

My name is Annette Wilson.I am working on my A. S. degree here at Estrella Mountain in order to meet my goal of becoming a pharmacist.Currently, I am honored to serve as the VP of Leadership for Phi Theta Kappa as well as participating in the Honors Program.I enjoy tutoring chemistry and math at the NASA Center in addition to holding a leadership role as the president of the newly formed PrePharmacy Club.My newest Service Learning Project came about as a result of working on a research paper for my ENG 102 class this past summer. I chose to write about how our legal system treats rape victims. When I had completed the research and writing, I was convinced that this issue needed to be addressed. This is how I was inspired to address this topic as a Service Learning experience.

My goal for this project is to educate our students about rape myths and how they affect all of us.These myths influence almost all aspects of how rape victims are treated, from the police officer to the hospital staff right on through to the attorney and the juries in the courtroom.I want to make students aware of the myths that are prevalent, in order to start changing opinions about rape myths.I will also present information that will help students be more aware of their social surroundings and possibley prevent a rape .
