Carl Tichenor comes to Estrella Mountain Community College after serving as Head Coach for Men's and Women's Track & Field at Phoenix College during the 2007-2008 season. At Phoenix College, he was responsible for recruiting, hiring assistant coaches, scheduling, budget oversight of the program, and workout regimens for the distance and middle distance runners. His PC Bears men's team finished 18th at the NJCAA indoor national meet, where four team members earned NJCAA Men's & Women's Track Coaches Association All-American honors. Overall, eight Bears met or exceeded national indoor and/or outdoor qualifying standards in nine events under Tichenor's watch.

Prior to joining the Phoenix College athletics staff, Tichenor served as Head Coach for Boy's and Girl's Cross Country and Assistant Track Coach, Distances at Phoenix Christian High School from 2000 to 2005. While there, his cross country teams qualified each year for the state championship meet, and included one Arizona High School All-American selection, three top ten performances at the state meet, and six All-Region selections. In track, his distance runners included four state champions and a state runner-up with two individuals competing in the 1,600 meters at Arizona State University's Sun Angel Classic.

Tichenor also had success as Head Coach for Boy's Cross Country at Long Island Lutheran High School in New York, and at Southfield Christian High School in Michigan, where his team finished with a state ranking of 3rd in its class during his final year.

As a collegian, Tichenor competed in two cross country national championships and earned All-Conference honors in track. He is a two-time National Masters silver medalist (800M, 1500M), a Canadian Masters National Champion (800M), and a North American Masters bronze medalist at 800 meters.

A graduate of Taylor University with a degree in French, Tichenor also earned a Master's degree in education from the College of St. Joseph in 1994. He is married with three grown children.
