Coach's Biography
The Women’s Golf Team at Estrella Mountain Community College welcomes Stefan Almanza as the new Head Women’s Golf Coach (Spring 2013). Originally from El Paso, Texas, golf has always played a big role in Coach Almanza’s life. Almanza quickly became the talk of his hometown when he picked up the club for the first time at the age of four. Stefan began playing golf competitively at the age of six and knew that golf would be a part of his future success. Almanza pursued competitive play as a valued member of his high school varsity golf team and also worked at a local golf club, Lone Star Golf Club, to develop his exposure to the business side of the golf industry. Coach Almanza continues his competitive participation with local Arizona amateur events and has an AGA index of 1.4.
Stefan moved to Phoenix in early 2007 to pursue his educational dreams and business development. Almanza attended Glendale Community College and played on the Gaucho Golf Team. Coach Almanza is currently pursuing a degree in Business Marketing.
During his educational development, Coach Almanza found that coaching was his passion and niche in the golf industry. Coach Almanza was hired to the coaching staff of The First Tee of Phoenix (National Youth Development Program) in December of 2007. The First Tee of Phoenix teaches junior golfers, from the age of 4-17, life skills and character development through the game of golf. Coach Almanza is an important asset to the chapter expansion and youth development of its 80,000+ local members. Coach Almanza assumes many roles within The First Tee of Phoenix and is a full time/year round instructor with a busy coaching schedule, he also coaches and manages the PING Junior Interclub team with state wide matches.
Coach Almanza has also completed a five year coaching certification program and has become a Recognized Coach by The First Tee Home Office. Through his hard work at The First Tee of Phoenix, Coach Almanza has been selected for national coaching opportunities, which includes attending national coach trainings and being selected to assist with national coaching academies.
