Writing Center
The Writing Center provides students with assistance as they work on writing projects for any Estrella Mountain class. Our learning support includes writing tutoring (both in-person and online) and other writing resources. Click the "online tutoring" link for details on online writing support.
The Writing Center a part of the Learning Enhancement Center, located on the first floor of Estrella Hall next to the Information Commons. It is staffed by a blend of adjunct faculty and peer tutors, who are trained and interested in helping students improve their writing.
When you arrive at the Writing Center, you’ll need to check in at the desk and tell the staff that you want writing tutoring. You’ll be assigned to a tutor, who will work with you on your writing. Drop-in tutoring is available on a first-come, first-served basis. For your convenience, we also offer in-person tutoring by appointment. You can come to the Writing Center at any point during the writing process—while you’re preparing to write, while you’re drafting, or while you’re working to improve your draft. You can use the service as often as you need to.
Our tutors will not write or edit your paper for you. Instead, they will work with you to help you improve as a writer. They’ll read your work, make suggestions for improvement, and help you incorporate those suggestions, providing information and coaching as you need it.
In order to make the most of your Writing Center visit, be sure to bring your assignment sheet and any other information about the requirements of your assignment as well as all of your writing for the assignment. We can do a much better job tutoring you if we understand exactly what it is that you need to accomplish and exactly what you have done so far.
Also, be sure to come to the Writing Center as early as you can. Since you’ll get suggestions and help improving your writing, you’ll need time to revise your paper after your visit; so don’t wait until the last minute.
