What is a Peer Mentor?

A Peer Mentor is a current EMCC student, employed by the college, who has taken and mastered several courses, and is now helping students in select CPD, MAT, ENG, BIO, AJS, and RDG courses.  Peer Mentors help new students navigate through the different resources and college processes and procedures that we offer.

How can I become a Peer Mentor?

New Peer Mentors are generally referred by EMCC faculty and staff to apply for a position in the middle of each semester when the call goes out from the program coordinator.  Minimum qualifications include: a) Currently enrolled EMCC student; b) Must have completed at least 12 credits at EMCC; c) Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above; c) Must be available to work approximately 10 hours per week; and, d) Must have good communication and leadership skills. How can I participate in the Peer Mentor Program as a mentee?

Register for a class designated with a Peer Mentor assigned to it. These classes are often CPD 150 or developmental education courses that have a prefix of MAT, ENG,or RDG below 100-level.
