Scholarships
Scholarships Are Our Priority
Phi Theta Kappa’s goal is to help members secure scholarships to help them transfer on to four-year colleges and universities at the conclusion of their community college studies. Scholarships may be based on academics, civic engagement, financial need, gender, ethnicity, field of study, or a variety of other criteria. Phi Theta Kappa members are also eligible to apply for $37 million in transfer scholarships each year, scholarships available exclusively to Phi Theta Kappa members.
We encourage students to start their scholarship search early in their college careers using tools such as Phi Theta Kappa’s http://www.collegefish.org . Please do not wait until closer to graduation to begin your search. Many scholarship awards are awarded earlier and you don’t want to miss important deadlines or submit hurried applications. Students can also increase their chances of earning scholarships if they are actively involved on campus and in their communities. Winning takes time, preparation, and involvement.
We strongly encourage students to complete their associate degrees before transfer. Completed associate degrees transfer more effectively and course work completed is usually accepted as a unit – no discussions about which courses will be accepted for transfer and which will not. Students with completed associate degrees usually transfer as “true juniors” in terms of class standing.
