Accomplishments 2012-2013

  • Hosted Earth Week 2013 (April 2013)
  • Relocated Burrowing Owls habitat (April 2013)
  • Participated in MCCCD Paper Reduction Campaign (October 26, 2011-October 26, 2012)
  • Published a Climate Action Plan for EMCC (May 2013)
  • Conducted a survey of EMC classes that are incorporating sustainability into the curriculum

  • Developed 'Energy Reduction Plan & Campaign' (September 2011)
  • Defined "Sustainability in the Curriculum" (April 2012)
  • Completed Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) Inventory (January 2012)
  • Approved Recycling Coordinator position (temporary) dedicated to campus recycling (February 2012)
  • The EMCC Sustainability Team raised $400 for a sustainability scholarship through the 2012 Estrella Rotary Foundation "Car Raffle" Scholarship Fundraiser (April 2012)

  • Ad-Hoc recommending committee that reports to Leadership Council and provides recommendations on campus business practices that align with Sustainability goals (August 2009)
  • Formalized assessment tool for Sustainability Plan, STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating) (August 2009)
  • Prioritized sustainability initiatives (August 2009)
  • Developed public Sustainability website (November 2009)
  • Became Charter Participant of STARS (December 2009)
  • Participated in Mariposa Hall Grand Opening and provided information on LEED/Green Features of Building during tours (February 24, 2010)
  • Chancellor signed the Presidents Climate Commitment on behalf of all MCCCD colleges (February 2010)
  • Created a Sustainability @ EMCC Facebook page (March 2010)
  • Co-Hosted EcoAvenues community event; Planted a tree on campus for the Tree City USA w/ Avondale Tree Planting Ceremony (April 2010)
  • Organized an E-Waste Drive and collected over 2,000 pounds of electronic waste (April 2010)
  • Organized a Student Outreach Campaign, Soles4Souls and collected over 550 pairs of shoes (April 2010)
