Every time you recycle PaperMate, Sharpie, and Expo writing instruments, MCCCD receives $.02 per writing instrument to be deposited into the Maricopa Foundation’s Sustainability Scholarship Fund. Another innovative example of recycling that benefits the environment and our students!
The following types of waste can be collected through the Writing Instrument Brigade: pens, pen caps, mechanical pencils, markers, marker caps, highlighters, highlighter caps, permanent markers, permanent markers caps, dry erase markers, etc.
How to Begin Recycling Writing Instruments and Earning Money for Student Scholarships
The EMCC Sustainability Team has recently put into place a designated drop-off location for all writing instruments that meet the above requirements. Please recycle all writing instruments with Denise Sievwright, Division Secretary for Behavioral Science and Cultural Studies in Montezuma Hall, 2nd Floor. Divisions and Departments may also implement their own recycling systems and can deliver to Denise or contact the Sustainability Team for pick-up.
