Assistant Director of Community Education and Workforce Development
Full time position with benefits.

Job Summary:
Plans, directs and evaluates Community Education and Workforce Development programs for the SouthWest Skill Center at Estrella Mountain Community College.  Develops and manages budgets, operating procedures and system data analysis processes.
 

Essential Functions:
Plans, directs and evaluates all instructional and Community Education programs. Prepares, recommends, and administers the Community Education/Workforce Development operating budget.  Reviews and recommends occupational program capital equipment expenditures, and prepares responses for external grants. 

Supervises instructors and staff within the Community Education/Workforce Development, performs employee annual evaluations and conducts in-classroom instructor evaluations.  Responds to and resolves student, staff and instructor complaints.

Act as liaison with College Divisions and Community Education/Workforce Development Programs.  Also acts as a liaison with the College Divisions and the Skill Center to coordinate services, build partnerships and the team concept. 

Develops and implements advisory committees for all Community Education/Workforce Development programs. Responsible for selecting and hiring instructors and support staff. Attends events, makes presentations and conducts tours of the Skill Center. Facilitates hiring, employee orientation and training of employees and instructors.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management or related field required.  Masters preferred.  Experience in occupational education administration, development of community occupational programs and /or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary/Work Schedule:
$47,979 – $53,977 DOE.  Monday – Friday with some evening and weekend hours required.

Business Retention Internship

Description

Gain skills in the field of economic development and develop a working knowledge of business retention techniques in order to assist Estrella Mountain Community College, Southwest Valley Chamber and southwest valley cities in gathering survey information for identified business clusters in the west valley.  Learning and utilizing real world applications for survey writing techniques, interview skills, written and oral communication. Participants/employees are expected to complete a group project and independently perform, initiate and coordinating interviews. Once selected for the Internship the student must register for GBS 298 AA and AB. Interns will be paid $9 per hour approximately 10 hours per week for a total of 8 weeks in the Fall Semester and 16 weeks in the Spring Semester.

Prerequisites

Current enrollment in Estrella Mountain Community College.
Completion of application and interview process.
Permission of the instructor.

Minimum Requirements

Proven ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
Ability to make effective verbal and written presentations.
Ability to organize and prioritize own work in order to handle multiple projects at one time. This position requires the ability to multi‐task.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the business community, economic development officials and the chamber.
Possession of writing skills for business correspondence, survey writing and report writing.
Analytical thinking skills.
Communication skills, verbal and written.
Desire to work with businesses and economic development practitioners.
Experience with data collection.
Enthusiastic.
Ability to think on their feet.
Self starter that can work with little supervision.
Ability to work with a team to complete a group project.
Proven leadership ability.

Must have a current student ID and valid drivers license

Once accepted must be in attendance at classes and available for both Fall and Spring internship.
