Electrical Systems Technology
The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Electrical Systems Technology program curriculum is designed to provide training for persons interested in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems found in commercial and industrial facilities. Training, most of which is hands-on, will include such topics as AC/DC theory, solid state devices, industrial motors and generators, motor control, workplace health and safety, and other subjects as local needs require. Graduates of this program can qualify for a variety of entry-level positions in electrical fields that may include on-the-job trainee or apprentice. An Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in Power Systems Technology is also available.

Students must earn a grade of C or better in all courses within the program.
This pathway map will help you gain the expertise needed to:
- Demonstrate the fundamentals of workplace safety and accident prevention related to the repair and maintenance of electrical machinery and equipment per the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Use the appropriate electrical fundamental concepts and tools for repair and maintenance of electrical equipment.
- Use mathematical concepts of algebra and trigonometry to the industrial setting.
- Explain the methods for producing electric power.
- Evaluate diagrams and schematics to analyze and troubleshoot the operation of electric/electronic circuits.
- Describe the applications of electric motor control and variable frequency drives in commercial and industrial settings.
- Collaborate effectively within a team structure.
- Demonstrate professionalism with conduct, ethics, and work practices.
Successful completion of this certificate may lead to employment in a variety of different occupations and industries. Course Sequence by Term
The following is the suggested course sequence by term. Please keep in mind:
- Students should meet with an academic advisor to develop an individual education plan that meets their academic and career goals. Use the Pathway Planner tool in your Student Center to manage your plan.
- The course sequence is laid out by suggested term and may be affected when students enter the program at different times of the year.
- Initial course placement is determined by current district placement measures and/or completion of 100-200 level course and/or program requirements.
- Degree and transfer seeking students may be required to successfully complete a MCCCD First Year Experience Course (FYE) within the first two semesters at a MCCCD College. Courses include FYE101 and FYE103. Course offerings will vary by college. See an academic, program, or faculty advisor for details.
