Welcome to the Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) Canvas Transition Project 2012-2013
The EMCC Canvas Transition Project 2012-2013 was created to offer campus based resources to Estrella Mountain faculty to enable them to execute a successful transition to the new learning management (LMS), Canvas.
E-learning at EMCC created three tiers of training to support the college’s successful transition to Canvas by the end of June 2013.
Canvas Basics Training (F2F Courses)
This online resource is provided to enable faculty (residential and adjunct) to learn the basics of the new LMS and to begin migrating their face to face courses to Canvas on their own. EMCC faculty, adept in technology, will be able to use this self-paced learning system to complete the transition of their F2F courses to Canvas. There is no compensation provided in this tier of training. F2F workshops and coaching sessions will be available to aid faculty.
Canvas Course Migration Workshops (hybrid and online)
A series of faculty cohort workshops have been scheduled to update and migrate more than 170 hybrid and online courses to Canvas in the 2012-2013 academic year. The result will be a new hybrid and online Canvas Course Bank that has a consistent interface - enabling EMCC students to easily navigate these Courses to complete their degrees and certificates. The Courses in the new Canvas Course Bank will serve as the official Master Courses for qualified and trained adjuncts beginning in Fall of 2013.
Each hybrid and/or online Course has been assigned to a specific training period. Faculty designated to execute the Course migration for their Divisions are required to:
- Attend one 12 hour (M-TH), (2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) Canvas Course Migration Workshop in their assigned period
- Complete independent hours to finish the hybrid and/or online Course migration by the assigned deadline
Compensation is at the $ 26.50 hourly rate. A typical 3-credit course will require 24 hours work (inclusive of Canvas Course Migration Workshop) to migrate. See Compensation Schedule doc. Courses must be delivered by the deadline assigned. Coaching appointments and sessions will be available to assist faculty in completion.
Preparing to Teach Hybrid/Online Course in Canvas
Faculty who are new to hybrid and online instruction at EMCC will be required to complete the Preparing to Teach training by the end of the first semester of hire. Only adjuncts who are not full-time Governing Board approved employees will be compensated. Compensation for these adjuncts will be 8 hours at the $ 26.50 per hour.
