The Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team (DEIT) aims to address issues of diversity, inclusion, equity, and engagement on campus by considering the contributions and viewpoints of others, providing an inclusive and safe campus, and committing to the intercultural learning and awareness that will make everyone feel a part of the EMCC community, especially those who are targeted or excluded because of their identity, disability, and/or group membership. Thus, we stand in support and solidarity with the most marginalized members of our community. We assert, unequivocally, that Estrella Mountain Community College will not tolerate racism, anti-Blackness, colorism, ableism, homophobia, or any acts of hatred or hate speech.
Goals for Academic Year (AY) 21/22:
To develop recommendations focused on increasing representation on our campus so that various employee groups reflect the communities we serve.
To collaborate with various campus groups, including but not limited to clubs/organizations, to develop videos, images, and materials that foster a sense of belonging and community on our campus.
To host a courageous conversation/difficult dialogue series for students and staff.
To support diversity, equity, and inclusion events and professional development opportunities both on and off campus.
To communicate diversity, equity, and inclusion progress to the campus community.
To finalize diversity, equity, and inclusion definitions and statements on campus.
To collaborate with college areas to identify where diversity, equity, and inclusion definitions and statements will be used on campus.
To work with the EMCC Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (OPIE) to develop an equity focused dashboard.
The DEIT meets the third Tuesday of each month from 1:00 pm-2:30 pm during regular months that are not the beginning (August/January) or end of the semester (December/May). If you are interested in joining the EMCC DEIT, please contact email@example.com
