EMpower

Main focus is to represent and advocate for individuals with disabilities and work to remove obstacles to equity and inclusion for this community.

  • Respond in a timely manner to address emerging issues and incidents impacting individuals with disabilities within our community  
  • Actively partner with the District advocacy group for employees with disabilities
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Develop Hiring Practices Recommendation Plan
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: FOI Representation Project

Events & Programming

Main focus is to create and/or support innovative and meaningful programming with a diversity, equity, and inclusion focus.

  • Develop programming ideas and collaborate with campus areas to execute events
  • Promote events/programming within the community, campus, and/or district so the college community is aware and attends
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Campus Cultural Heritage Month Group Formation
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Class Previews
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Third-Party Facilitated Dialogue Series

Research

Main focus is to conduct internal and external research regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion issues and topics.

  • Determine baseline data for the work in alignment with EMCC Strategic plan
  • Submit data requests  focused on college diversity, equity, and inclusion trends and make recommendations based on data trends
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: DEI Hiring Practices Recommendation Plan
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Equity dashboard recommendations
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Class Previews
  • Key partner includes- EMCC Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness

District/College operations

Main focus is to examine policies and work with MCCCD stakeholders to better address diversity, equity, and inclusion topics and needs in our community.

  • Conduct a hiring process review at the institutional level
  • Propose training on how to develop desired qualifications and/or interview questions to minimize bias
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Develop Hiring Practices Recommendation Plan
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Equity dashboard recommendations
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Advisory Board development

Communication
Main focus is to develop communication strategies for disseminating information about the team with internal and external stakeholders

  • Collaborate with EMCC areas on how best to communicate diversity, equity, and inclusion progress to the campus community.
  • Update the DEIT webpage, intrasite, and other communication channels
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Storytelling Project
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Final EMCC DEI definitions and statement
  • Contribute to AY 21-22 Action Item: Advisory Board development

Partnerships/Coalition Building

Main focus is to develop and maintain partnerships with external community organizations with a diversity, equity, and inclusion emphasis

  • Identify external communication organizations with a diversity, equity, and inclusion emphasis that would add value to the team.
  • Recommend programming that engaged external community organizations with our campus community

Curriculum

Main focus is to infuse Culturally Sustaning Pedagogy (CSP) (e.g. culturally relevant (CR)) education practices and anti-racist curriculum into all that we do as a college.

  • Inventory what is available on campus in support of this work.
  • Recommend professional development opportunities throughout the year.
