Walk Jog Apps and Resources

These are some free or very inexpensive smart phone applications that may be helpful to you in your pursuit of physical activity and health.

These web sites and apps are just a few of the many that are available.  We are not recommending these over any others.  They are simply ones with which we are already familiar.

If you have a favorite app or web site to track or guide your exercise, please share it with us.  Click the “email us” link in the lower left corner of this page to get our address.

This is a cell phone app that turns your phone into a pedometer.  There is a free version and an inexpensive paid version.  This allows you to track your total steps per day and set goals.  The National Institutes for Health recommend everyone walk at least 7,000 steps per day.

AllSport GPS

This cell phone app tracks your exercise in a variety of modes including walking, jogging, bicycling, and others.  There is a free and inexpensive paid version.  You can track your routes and map them, as well as monitor distance, speed, calories burned, etc.  This allows you to set goals for speed &/or distance to measure progress.

Couch To 5K

This cool web site and cell phone app could be your personal motivation tool.  Most of the resources on the web site are free.  As the name implies both the web site and app have training guides to take you from completely sedentary to being able to finish a 5K run which is 3.1 miles.  The web site has training guidelines, tips, and a schedule.  You can also track your exercise there.  The cell phone app (this is cool) talks to you and coaches you through day one to completing a 5K.  All you have to do is click start and follow the prompts.  It even plays music.  LOL
