How to Participate in the Commencement Ceremony

Students wishing to participate in commencement need to complete the following:

  • Apply for graduation
  • Pay commencement fee – pay $25.00 fee to Enrollment Services
  • Complete participation card
    • Participation cards will be mailed to eligible students and will also be available from Enrollment Services beginning April 30, 2018
    • Participation cards are due to Enrollment Services by May 10, 2018
  • ​Pick up your cap, gown, and announcement cards, while supplies last
    • Students will receive five announcements with cap and gown (while supplies last)
    • Extra announcements are $0.50 each (Extra announcements will not be available until May 7, 2018, while supplies last)

No rehearsal prior to commencement.

Check-in will begin at 8:00 AM.  All graduates must be checked in before 9:00 AM, or you may not be allowed to participate in the ceremony. This area has no place for storing personal items, please leave items with family and friends. Due to limited space, only participating graduates will be allowed in check-in area.

UPDATED: Grand Canyon University offers free parking in several locations on campus. Due to construction, the parking location for commencement has changed. Parking will now be located in the 29th Avenue and Camelback structure. In the instance of overflow parking, Security will direct drivers to an alternate lot. Shuttle services may be provided at the 29th Avenue structure. If able, please carpool.

Professional photographers will be taking pictures of all commencement participants on Friday, May 11, 2018, during the commencement ceremony. These photographs will be available for purchase from Grad Images. To complete your pre-event registration go to Grad Images

Participation in the commencement ceremony does not certify graduation or completion of a certificate.  Degree and certificate recipients who participate in the ceremony will receive only an award cover at the ceremony. Students will be notified via their Official Student Email once certificates and degrees are available for pick-up.

For qualified students who wish to receive the Maricopa Community College Veteran Stole or Dependent Cord, please attend the 2018 Veterans Convocation on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 5pm. Refreshments will be provided after convocation. For additional details and to RSVP, please click here.

If you or one of your guests has need for a sign language interpreter or alternative print format, please call Pam Grady at 623-935-8935 no later than April 27, 2018.

  • The ceremony will be indoors. You will be standing and walking before and during the ceremony. Comfortable footwear is recommended.
  • The ceremony will be approximately 1.5-2 hours. Please be respectful of all of our graduates; it is expected that all attendees remain for the entire ceremony.
  • Following the ceremony, guests will be directed up the stands and outside the arena to meet their graduates. Guests will not be permitted access to the arena floor.
  • Concession stands will be open for guests.
  • Parking is free.
  • Balloons and strollers are prohibited inside the arena.
  • As there is no place for storage, we do not encourage graduates to bring personal items. Clear bags are recommended for guests.
