The Dance Program at Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) provides all dance students with an educational experience that is inclusive, supportive, and enriching. With a program vision of individual expression through creative collaboration, no auditions are required for performing with the student company, DancEstrella. Participants use a collaborative artistic process for developing productions each semester. EMCC’s new Performing Arts Center (PAC)
includes a beautiful dance studio and proscenium theatre, serving the college and the community
as a regional artistic hub.
Dance majors receive a comprehensive pre-professional dance curriculum which prepares students for transfer and career readiness. DAN 220 - Dance Career Preparation is a degree track course offered only at EMCC. In this class, dance majors explore career options and requirements; learn networking, auditioning and interviewing techniques; develop materials for personal and event promotion; and learn about dance/arts administration and fundraising.
General-interest students have the opportunity to train, create and perform alongside degree students in a pre-professional, cooperative and non-competitive environment. All classes are open to any EMCC student to experience dance as a powerful vehicle for self-expression and community service. Participation in a variety of performances and events both on and off campus are open to all dance students.
WHAT STUDENTS ARE SAYING
“The dance program at EMCC was very collaborative and creative. It gave me the confidence to come out of my shell, think outside the box, and help me realize there are no wrong answers.”
"Being in DancEstrella has changed my life. My relationship with my body, with dance, art, community...I feel challenged and pushed constantly as a student, professional, dancer, human. I have developed friendships that have enhanced my life in every way.”
“Collaboration really showed me that things can always work out through a compromise. It also taught me how to be a team player and keep my mind open to other people’s suggestions.”
