Special Admission

Students who are interested in getting a jump-start on college while still attending high school may do so through our Special Admission Process.

Special admission to Estrella Mountain Community College may be granted to any person under the age of 18 who meets the established requirements for a course. Admission shall be considered only when the process for special admission students has been completed.

PLEASE NOTE: Students are required to bring a photo ID to ALL in-person meetings and to conduct business on campus.

Special admission students are:

  • Under 18 years of age
  • Have not graduated from high school or obtained a GED*
  • Not part of a cohort group such as ACE, Hoop of Learning, Dual Enrollment, or AAEC High School**

* Students who have graduated from high school or obtained a GED are considered regular students regardless of age.

** AAEC HS students must follow special admission process for classes they are paying for on their own.

PROCESS FOR NEW SPECIAL ADMISSION STUDENTS

1 - Complete the Student Admission Application process
This can be done in-person or online HERE.  This process will generate a Student ID and MEID numbers once complete.

2 - Take Placement Tests
Required >
English & Reading; Recommended > Mathematics.
Students will need a photo ID and their Student ID Number to test. Click here for the current testing information & schedule.

3 - Attend "PAW" (Priority Advisement Workshop) Session - Days and times may vary, and are offered on a drop-in basis. Click here for current PAW information & schedule.

4 - Make Appointment with a Special Admission Administrator
Please call (623) 935-8814. The Special Admission Administrator will advise and register the student.

Meeting Requirements:

  • Bring a copy of unofficial high school transcript (official transcript is not required for advisement purposes) or record of high school academic progress.
  • Parent or legal guardian must accompany the student.
  • Student must bring a state/government issued photo ID.

PROCESS FOR CONTINUING SPECIAL ADMISSION STUDENTS

1 - Make Appointment with a Special Admission Administrator
Please call (623) 935-8814. The Special Admission Administrator will advise and register the student.

Meeting Requirements:

  • Bring a copy of unofficial high school transcript (official transcript is not required for advisement purposes) or record of high school academic progress.
  • Parent or legal guardian must accompany student.
  • Student must bring a state/government issued photo ID.

Students admitted under the EMCC Special Admission Program are subject to all regular tuition, fees, and to all state and county residency regulations.

Continuing students must reapply for special admission each semester that they wish to take classes, until they are 18 years of age or who have graduated high school/passed the GED.
