Under 18 Admissions (formerly Special Admissions)

Students who are interested in getting a jump-start on college while still attending high school may do so through our Under 18 Admissions Process.

Admission to Estrella Mountain Community College may be granted to any person under the age of 18 who meets the established requirements for a course. Admission shall be considered only when the Under 18 Admissions process has been completed.

Under 18 Admissions students are:

  • Under 18 years of age
  • Have not graduated from high school or obtained a GED*

* Students who have graduated from high school or obtained a GED are considered regular students regardless of age.

As you complete step one, we recommend you write down the following information on your Enrollment Steps guide:

  • MEID
  • Student ID number
  • Maricopa email address

Under 18 Admissions Steps

  • Step 1: Get Admitted
    • This process will generate a Student ID and MEID numbers once complete.
    • Select High School Students: Get Started to apply. Student Admission Application
  • Step 2: Complete Tasks in Student Center
    • After you successfully get admitted, you may have additional tasks to complete. To view your tasks, log in to your Student Center.
    • High School Juniors and Seniors (must meet one of the options below):
      • At least a 2.6 GPA (cumulative unweighted). You will be asked to add your GPA and upload your unofficial high school transcript in the Under 18 Admissions Form.
      • Below a 2.6 GPA? No problem! Visit our Placement Testing page for instructions on how to complete the Reading EdReady placement exam.
    • All other Under 18 students (must meet one of the options below):
      • Complete the Reading EdReady placement exam by following the instructions on this website.

  • Step 3: Register for Classes
    • Complete the Under 18 Admissions Form.
    • Processing time: Please allow 1-3 business days for initial processing after submitting your Under 18 Admissions Form. You will receive an email at your personal email (please check your spam/junk folders) and official Maricopa email (MEID) once the Under 18 Admissions form has been processed. You will then be able to enroll in classes online, over the phone or in person. Please remember to pay your tuition or verify that funding/scholarships are in place.
    • Don’t know what classes to register for and want to talk to your Field of Interest Advisor? Call 623-935-8888, option 4 to schedule an appointment or go online ( You will select the Canvas option and login with your MEID and password.
    • Before you begin the enrollment process, please look at the course placement requirements.
  • Step 4: Pay Tuition & Fees
    • After you have registered for classes, you need to make payment arrangements.
    • If you do not pay the balance of your tuition and fees by the due date, you will not be able to register for any additional classes or receive your transcripts. To check the due date of your tuition and fees, go to your Online Student Center.

Students who are participating in an early college program such as ACE, Hoop of Learning, Dual Enrollment, or AAEC High School: please contact your program administrator BEFORE signing up for classes through the Early College Under 18 Admissions process. Payment will be different for you, so you must check with your program administrator first.
