Priority Advisement Workshop

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions students frequently ask about the Priority Advisement Workshop

The Priority Advisement Workshop was created with you and your success in mind. All new students who have completed all three placement test are required to attend a Priority Advisement Workshop (PAW) before meeting with an academic advisor. The PAW introduces new students to the community college and all its offerings like the self service features of the student center at, your college email, how to add/drop classes, and more.

As long as you meet the pre-requisites for a course in addition to any program requirements, you may register yourself for that class. Be aware that some programs, culinary for example, have program requirements that must be met prior to entry into that program in addition to prerequisites for specific courses.

We have a self-service computer station that you may use in Enrollment Services. In addition, you may contact Student Success Services any time you have a question. Feel free to drop by the PAW room during the workshop portion and receive extra assistance. You can also call 623-935-8476 to speak with the PAW facilitator for additional questions.

That depends on you. Some people who are new to college appreciate the discussion of educational planning. Some prefer the hands-on portion of the workshop where they search for classes. Either way, bring your questions and willingness to learn and PAW will give you a head start in successfully planning your education at EMCC.

We are continually working on offering more programs. Please visit the Student Success Workshops and Activities link in the New Student Orientation page for upcoming events. If you want to hear about any programs currently being offered or want to request help in a specific area, contact us!
