Faculty Development

EMCC believes that developing and teaching high quality courses is essential to effective student learning.  This is especially true in the online environment. Under the auspices of the Faculty Resource Action Committee for Teaching and Learning (FRACTL), the college administers a course master grants program where faculty are compensated to develop a Quality Matters-aligned course that could be viewed by any employee and used by any qualified faculty at the college. You can learn more about course masters or contact FRACTL leadership for more information.

If you have not been assigned a course by your division chair, residential and adjunct faculty can prepare to teach an online or hybrid course that has already been developed:

  1. Inform your chair of your wish to teach an online course.
  2. Complete the Canvas course: "Teach Online with Canvas". Self register via the CTL: https://ctl.estrellamountain.edu/workshops

If you have been assigned a course by your division chair, adjunct faculty:

  1. Complete the Canvas course: "Teach Online with Canvas". Self register via the CTL: https://ctl.estrellamountain.edu/workshops
  2. Upon completion of the course, follow the final directions - Email the CTL!
  3. Adjunct faculty who have been approved by the division chair to teach will be compensated for course completion for 4 hours at the corresponding hourly rate for adjuncts.

If you have been assigned a course by your division chair, residential faculty:

  1. Complete the Canvas course: "Teach Online with Canvas". Self register via the CTL: https://ctl.estrellamountain.edu/workshops
  2. Inform your  Division Chair or Program Director upon completion of the course.
  3. Participation in the training is part of the reasonable activities required for full and proper discharge of a Faculty member's responsibilities (RFP 5.4. Accountability/Professional Responsibilities).
