Do you find yourself asking the big questions about life and searching for meaningful answers? If you’ve ever wondered if we perceive the world accurately or what makes an action wrong, philosophy — meaning “love of wisdom” in Greek — could be your calling.
The Philosophy program can help open your mind to understanding diverse world views while giving you the tools to examine the human condition in depth. Not only that, but it will also equip you with analytical skills most employers find invaluable. You’ll develop the ability to think logically and read carefully with a critical eye as you study with experts who teach you to spot faulty reasoning — and how to avoid it in your writing and work.
What you learn in the Philosophy program will give you valuable, foundational skills that can transfer to future studies in other disciplines, such as law, social sciences, the humanities, and public policy, if you continue your education at a four-year school.
Take the first step to creating a new reality in the Philosophy program. Start your journey today.
Students at any Maricopa Community College may need to complete courses at more than one of our colleges.
The more we understand the world around us, digging deeper into the big questions, the more we can help others. Philosophy is ancient, deep, and broad. From questions about the nature of the universe, the nature of humans, the existence God, how humans ought to live and behave, and what makes something beautiful, Philosophy informs us in countless ways and enriches our lives. The Philosophy program at EMCC provides focused training in critical thinking, critical reading, writing, reasoning, communication, and civic dialogue, all while developing an understanding of diverse world views. You will gain proficiency in foundational skills for future studies and work in law, social sciences, the humanities, and public policy. The program prepares students for their bachelor degree transfer pathway and equips them with analytical skills highly valued by employers.
