Laura Castañeda was born in El Paso, Texas, and moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1986. She grew up in the Phoenix area, graduating from Alhambra High School in 1997 and from Phoenix College in 2000.
That same year, Castaneda embarked on a dedicated career in military service by joining the United States Air Force, with her first active-duty assignment taking her to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2004, she deployed for her first combat tour in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In 2008, Castañeda transitioned from active duty, splitting her service between her local community and the nation. She joined the Phoenix Police Department while simultaneously continuing her military commitment with the Phoenix Air National Guard, then the Air Force Reserve. During this period, she deployed for a second combat tour, serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010.
Throughout her distinguished military career, she has completed several deployments across Central and South America and the Middle East. Today, Castañeda continues her service as a Phoenix Police Officer and serves as the S4 Superintendent for the 943rd Security Forces Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona.
