National Veterans and Military Families Month

What is November

November is known as National Military Family Month or the National Veterans and Military Families Month.  The focus is to recognize and honor the commitment, sacrifices, and challenges that military families and veterans face.  It provides an opportunity to acknowledge the service of our veterans and their contributions to our country. This special month highlights the unique role that the military family plays in supporting our veterans as well as the resiliency that is shown by veterans and their families.

Throughout November, many organizations and communities offer special events, programs, and resources to our veterans and military families as a way to show their appreciation and gratitude. Many of these events and programs choose to highlight four areas essential to well-being: relationships, financial security, work-life balance, and transition.

Celebrate With Us

Here at EMCC, we will show our appreciation and gratitude to our veterans and military families by hosting the 12th Annual West Valley Veterans Day Ceremony and 5K/1-mile Run/Walk on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

This is a special family-friendly event that brings the community together to honor and recognize our veteran community. The celebration begins with a fun 5K or 1-mile run/walk throughout our campus. Money raised through the event will go towards funding scholarships for student veterans at EMCC facing financial barriers to higher education. This assistance can help veterans with emergency funds to cover tuition, books, or even housing and food costs, benefitting their whole families. The ceremony follows the run and is designed to honor our veterans and to show our appreciation for the sacrifices they and their families have persevered through.

Ways you can help:

  • Extend a specific tangible offer of help to a military family. Examples include, watching the children for an afternoon or helping with packing and unpacking during a move
  • Write a letter or send a care package to a veteran or military family. A package of snacks and toiletries can brighten the day of deployed service members and their families back home.  The USPS offers free “Military Care Kits” to help with shipping supplies
