More in-person classes offered this summer

AVONDALE, ARIZONA, June 2 – Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is excited to offer more in-person Kids College classes this summer! The annual program is open to children ages 8 to 16. Classes, which last three days to six weeks, begin in June and July.

Class topics range from “Culinary Kids — the Bakery” and “Creating with Art” to “Intro. to 3D Printing and Design” and “Sign Language for Kids.” New this year is “Wild About EMCC: Experience Nature in our Backyard.” The course is designed to introduce students to the collection of native and pet-trade species maintained within the Life Science Division at EMCC. Students will learn about the care, ecology, and handling of numerous reptiles, arthropods, and small mammals used in EMCC’s Animal Ambassadors Community Outreach Program. Students will also help harvest vegetables in EMCC’s teaching garden, survey for burrowing owls around the campus’ artificial burrows, feed the college’s outdoor turtles, and create several nature-themed crafts.

EMCC has once again partnered with Black Rocket to offer live online computer gaming and coding classes. Through these classes, students can learn to make their own video games, create an animated Minecraft video on YouTube, or learn the basics of coding languages such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, just to name a few.

To ensure the safety of both the students and professors, in-person Kids College classes will be reduced in size and everyone will practice social distancing with masks. In-person classes will take place at EMCC, 3000 N. Dysart Road, Avondale.

Registration is currently underway for all Kids College classes. Parents are urged to register their children early due to the reduced class sizes. Class fees vary and some require an additional supply fee.
