Welcome to Dual Enrollment at Estrella Mountain Community College

Dual enrollment is an opportunity for high school students to get a head start on college. Dual enrollment courses allow students to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously during regular school hours at their high school. The credit earned may be transferred to a community college or university upon high school graduation.

Are You Looking for Dual Enrollment Classes?

As a first-time Dual Enrollment student, the process will include applying for admissions to Estrella Mountain Community College, setting up Duo two-factor authentication, completing the Next Steps Form, self-registering for classes, and paying tuition and fees.

Before you begin, make sure you gather the following documents:

  1. Acceptable forms of identification (example: AZ drivers license or state identification or high school ID with birth certificate).
  2. Review the school class list and class prerequisites and take note of the following:
  • Term, Course, Class #, Class Hour, Instructor, Credits (example: Fall 2022, ENG 101, 12345, 1st hour, Jones, 3)
  • Documentation or assessment may be required for college course placement (example: High school transcripts reflecting current CUM GPA, SAT/ACT scores, EdReady placement test).

Step 1: Apply for Admissions

  1. Create a student account.
  2. Select Estrella Mountain Community College as your primary college.
  3. When you finish your application, you will receive:
    • MEID and password (example: ABC1234567)
    • Student ID number (example: 33333333)
    • Maricopa email (example: ABC1234567@maricopa.edu)

Step 2: Set up Duo Two-Factor Authentication

Duo is Maricopa Community Colleges’ two-factor authentication service, providing an extra layer of security to protect against hackers, cyber threats, and any unauthorized access to sensitive data.

  1. Download the Duo Mobile app from Apple or Google Play store.
  2. Follow the Duo Mobile set-up instructions. Your student email account (MEID@maricopa.edu) is required.
  3. Add your phone number.
  4. Choose your device:
    • iPhone or Android Smartphone (more secure and recommended option)
    • iPad or Tablet (next best option)
    • Traditional cell phone
    • Landline
  5. Log in to a Maricopa Community Colleges system.
  6. Start using Duo two-factor authentication when prompted through your device choice.

Step 3: Complete the Dual Enrollment Next Steps Form

  1. Select the Estrella Mountain Community College as your primary college.
  2. Determine college readiness and course placement: Students must meet college course prerequisites and provide proof or documentation, or will not be able to self-register for classes.
    • 9th and 10th Grade
    • 11th and 12th Grade
      • Unofficial high school transcript, the unweighted GPA must be a 2.6 or higher.
      • Other placement assessments may be needed for courses with prerequisites.

Please allow 7-10 business days (Monday-Friday) to verify and review the Dual Enrollment Next Steps Form before completing Step 4, self-registration. You will receive an email to your Maricopa student email account when you are approved to self-register.

Step 4: Self-register for Classes

  1. Once you’ve received an email approval to self-register, visit Student Tools and click on Add a Class.
  2. Log in using your MEID@maricopa.edu (example: ABC1234567@maricopa.edu) and your password.
  3. Select Estrella Moutnain Community College and the term for which you are registering.
  4. In the search bar, enter the 5-digit class section number and click enter. Use the enter key or click the arrow button to the right.
  5. Verify the class is the one you want. Click the blue hyperlink to see details, for example, time and location, prerequisites, and more. If everything looks correct, click anywhere on the class row or the arrow on the far right.
  6. Click Enroll or Add to Shopping Cart to the Class Selected and click Submit.
  7. To add more classes, click Class Search and Enroll page link and repeat the steps as needed.

If you are unable to self-register for your class, please contact the Dual Enrollment office at (623) 935 8900 to further assist you.

Step 5: Pay Tuition and Fees

Once you have registered for your dual enrollment classes, you can pay your tuition and fees online or set up a payment plan.

*If your high school offers a reduced tuition rate, make sure to pay that portion only. Click here to view tuition rates.

Spring Payment deadline: February 14, 2024

  • Students must drop or notify the Dual Enrollment Office if they decide to withdraw from a dual class by the Spring Refund Deadline: February 16, 2023.

Tuition assistance is available from the Maricopa Tuition Assistance Grant for those who qualify. You can apply for the Maricopa Grant (English | Spanish) to help with tuition costs.

If you have taken Dual Enrollment classes before, you are already in the system with and have an established MEID. If the previously dual class was not taken with EMCC, than you need to log in to the Admissions application to add EMCC to your existing student account.
